Definition of Aquaponic

Aquaponic or in English language Aquaponic language is a mourning of two words: Aquaculture and ponos. Aquaculture or aquaculture is another term of aquaculture that is producing activities with water media while ponos is derived from the Greek language that can be interpreted as work to plant the plant. So what is meant by aquaponic is a cultivation system that combine aquatic aquaculture with cultivation of plants.

Aquaponik

Aquaponik is a symbiotic system between fish and plants. By turning the flow of water circulation from fish to plant and back to fish will create a healthier water cycle for the growth of fish. In conventional aquaculture systems (ordinary) the biggest constraint that inhibits the growth of fish is the amount of organic waste such as ammonia in water (in the form of uncooked fish substances) that are uncontrolled. In contrast to the aquaponic system, organic wastewater will be used as nutrients for plant growth. The plant will serve as a water purifier so that water from the plant can then be reused as a medium of fish growth. In addition, continuous water circulation will ensure the levels of oxygen in the water. Cultivation with this system can be used both on a small scale and on a large scale.

Advantages of Aquaponic Cultivation

Compared with conventional systems, aquaponic cultivation has many advantages, what are the advantages? following a number of advantages in the aquaponic system

1. Production cost is relatively cheaper

Water in pond Fish contains a lot of organic matter as a result of the secretion of fish. Organic materials such as nitrogen and phosphorus are nutrients that plants need to grow. So that the water circulation system in aquaponic aquaculture is already feeding the nutritional needs of the plant in other words the need for fertilizer has been resolved.

Besides aquaponic cultivation also save water usage. Continuous water circulation from fish to plant and back to fish will make the water cleaner. Ammonia which is a direct pollutant of fish in water by passing water circulation to the roots of plants will be reduced and utilized by plants So that water can be used many times.

2. No need for weeding

One of the problems that should be routinely controlled on cultivating crops is the weeds. Weeds that are not handled will interfere with plant growth because nutrients in the soil become more limited due to absorption competition, so farmers need to take time for weeding. With aquaponic cultivation weed problems can be solved because the medium used does not allow weeds to grow.

3. Low land needs

Another advantage of aquaponic cultivation compared to conventional cultivation is in terms of land availability. Conventional cultivation tends to require special and relative land whereas in aquaponic cultivation the land is needed less and can use unused unused land such as the yard.

4. Produce organic products

The use of a natural system without pastisida and other chemicals makes aquaponic products produce healthy fish meat and organic crops for people to eat.

In its development the aquaponics system now has many designs. The development of the flora adjusts the type of plant to be cultivated, eg plants such as kankung can be developed by using aquaonic floating system. The simple aquaponic system as seen in the scheme above requires a number of major tools and materials. among others :

1. Fish tank

Fish tank is made of waterproof container so it can hold water as a medium of fish farming. The size of the water tank is adjusted to the number of fish seeds that will be developed. As for the types of fish that can be cultivated such as type of carp, mujair, indigo, catfish, gourami and catfish

2. Tub planting

Tub planting is a place to lay the planting medium that will be used to plant crops. Some types of plants that can be cultivated with this system are Lettuce, Celery and mustard greens

3. Pumps

Pumps play an important role in regulating water circulation

4. Media planting

Planting media used are porous materials such as gravel, charcoal, coconut husk and other porous materials.
